Overcoming Burnout
How do you deal with burnout?
The last couple of years have been challenging to say the least, and the lifting of restrictions has led to many of us putting our foot flat on the gas.
That, coupled with the extra pressure we were carrying from lockdown, means that many of us are now physically fatigued, mentally exhausted and feeling... well... burnt out.
Many of us have tried to soldier on. But that grinds us down further.
Happily, there is another way!
Tammy Barter is our trained coach on wellness and nutrition as well as a Pilates and fitness instructor.
During our next free webinar, Tammy offers masses of quick tips and practical exercises for preventing burnout. Her advice will help boost physical and mental energy to get us feeling healthy, productive and mentally primed for whatever 2022 throws at us.
Imposter Syndrome - In conversation with... Sarah Townsend
Everyone knows that one person who's outgoing, funny, entertaining, amazing at their job and always looks immaculate.
Meanwhile you're just about holding everything together, worrying you're not as hilarious, clever or good at your job and thinking you really must book a haircut.
Sound familiar?
Sarah Townsend is one of those stars. A talented copywriter, author of the wildly successful "Survival Skills for Freelancers", in-demand speaker and all-round lovely lady. With excellent hair.
Yet underneath it all - as she admits in her book - she, too, worries she's somehow not as good as everyone thinks she is. That she'll get found out at some point. That she's actually a bit of a fraud.
This perfectly illustrates the paradox that is imposter syndrome. By its very definition, it affects successful people.
Sarah has defeated her inner imposter - at least most of the time! - and she's going to tell me how.
Imposter Syndrome - In Conversation with... Neil Stewart
Guess how a Tupperware box can help you overcome imposter syndrome...
Yes really! This is a gold-standard technique from last week's webinar guest Neil Stewart. Despite enormous professional success in several different industries, Neil has suffered from imposter syndrome at the most inconvenient times. Think, being landed with a keynote speech in front of hundreds with 24 hours' notice!
When that happens, Neil stresses the importance of being aware of and accepting the fear. Only then can you fight it.
So where does the Tupperware box come in?!
If you're in a situation that is making you fearful - Neil used the example of being landed with a particularly challenging presentation - he recommends you visualise the fear in front of you.
Take an imaginary Tupperware box with a nice secure clippy lid and stuff that fear into the box. Make sure it's in good and proper before clipping on the lid and putting it on a shelf behind you.
It will need to be dealt with later (no good comes from permanent suppression of these things) but, for now, it can be put out of sight - allowing you to focus on the presentation, meeting or other tricky situation.
It's simple and it REALLY works!
Managing someone with imposter syndrome: techniques for supporting your team
Imposter syndrome is a disagreeable beast. It erodes self-confidence, leads to missed opportunities and rarely allows someone to operate at their very best.
If you live with imposter syndrome or manage someone with imposter syndrome; you will know what a frustrating affair this can be. Telling yourself or a team member that they are better than they think they are is well-intentioned but unlikely to be effective.
So as a leader or manager, how can you support someone with self-confidence issues and enable them to fulfil their potential?
As a sufferer, how can you work on and work with your manager to ensure you get all the support you need to develop your confidence and flourish in your career?
